The Household Command Center simply helps your family run smoothly and efficiently.
An organized office brings structure, logic, and control to the process of running a home or running a business. It optimizes workflow to increase productivity, reduce stress, and heighten profitability. It can motivate to find real solutions to everyday and ongoing challenges of too much to do, changing priorities, and information overload. An organized office includes easy systems for managing you mail, enough surface area for working, separate locations for personal and professional files and papers, good lighting and equipment that work efficiently.
There’s no right or wrong way to go about organizing – the key is simply creating a system that suits your needs. Your work area can offer the serenity of home, along with the productive spirit of an office.
Traditionally this is the high traffic social and family center of any house. It is where you say ‘hello and goodbye’, nourish yourself and is the only room in the house where fire and sharp knives are considered ‘good things’. It can also be the source of a lot of waste and poor health. An overstuffed kitchen or pantry can also cost dollars in re-stocking items you thought you needed or frustration when you reach for something you thought you had. If the living room is the heart of the family, the kitchen is the soul. Clearing it of clutter will ‘get all over your life’ and can be a source of health and joy!
A family room or den is a shared space where the main purpose or function differs from one person to another. This lack of focus can literally cause clutter to accumulate.
Everyone’s input is encouraged for the organizing process to succeed.
Since the space is generally used by more than one person it must be organized in a way that fulfills the entire family’s needs. Because the family room is so visible, it naturally sets the tone for the rest of the house. The tone of the living room says a lot about who you are.
This is supposed to be your personal sanctuary. Because it is a ‘private’ space it can be where you ‘hide stuff’ from guests and family. Clutter in this room can affect your health and prevent you from getting that much needed recharge you need. It is crucial that you have order and a calm – possibly the first room to take on with an organizer!
The temptation with a dining room, especially a formal one that is not used every day, is to use that big open space on the table to put stuff ‘till you get to it’ (the five scariest words in organizing!) This room is the least cluttered for a reason, it has a clear and dedicated purpose, but it can become cluttered with bills, homework, art projects and shopping bags. In extreme cases, people will get so buried in the dining room that it interferes with their social life and family time. Not only will an organizer help clear this room, but will discuss its best use per your family dynamic.
Whether finished or not, the top and bottom of the house can be the catch alls for the whole family. Every family has memorabilia, seasonal items, seasonal clothes, sports items, games, tools – it can be like a department store in your downstairs. This room can be the biggest challenge of the house and there can be real costs and expenses if items aren’t stored properly, are ‘out of sight and mind’ and items get replaced when you already have them. Don’t wait until your old family photos and files, your keepsakes and memorabilia are ruined before creating order and space management in your home’s literal foundation.
A garage can become a dumping ground for stuff that doesn’t have anywhere else to hide or half way house for items you may not need but you’re not ready to throw away. A cluttered garage can cause frustration, anxiety and shame. Bikes, toys and seasonal items can cause clutter and potential danger to people or damage to cars. Visualize a place for every piece of athletic equipment, parking zones for all types of vehicles, even easily accessible areas to work and play.
When we say 'working spaces' we mean not only office spaces for home based businesses or where you work from home, we're talking about the places where work gets done around the house.
